Habitat Build (thru Fri, 11/14) - This year most of the time slots for the Habitat Build were reserved within a few hours of the site opening up onlilne (HforH club members get first dibs).  If you'd still like to work, however, head out to Bowman one day when you have a few spare hours. There's a good chance that someone will not show up and you'll be able to pitch in. CUMC Advent Workshop (Sun, 11/30) - From 4 - 6:30 pm folks of all ages will be gathering at Clemson UMC to beginning preparing for the Advent Season.  All college students are invited, but the church needs to know how many to plan for.  If you'd like to participate, email Lane at glaze@clemson.edu.       Faculty/Staff "Thank You's" (Sun, 11/30) - Be thinking of the faculty or staff person that you would like to thank for what he/she has done for you this semester.  We'll have supplies on hand on Sunday, 11/30 at Evensong for you to create a personalized "thank you" care package to deliver the last week of class. "We Love Freshmen" Night (TBA - last week of classes) - Be on the lookout for more details on this special (and somewhat secretive?) event designed to encourage freshmen as they prepare for their first college exams. Christmas Caroling (Fri, 12/5) - Plan on meeting at CUMC at 5 pm, and we'll carpool to Larry and Lynda Sheppard's neighborhood for another fun night of caroling, hot cider and homeade cookies.  This is a great time of outreach to this neighborhood, many of whom are not connected to a community of faith. Christmas Drop In at the Glazes (Sat, 12/6) - Plan on stopping by Chez Glaze for some delicious homeade soup, sweets and other goodies.  This year, Carrie Smith and Katherine Cragon will also seek to defend their foosball title.  Check the website for times, and email Lane for directions. Thanks for helping out!  For more details, contact Julia McCoy at jcmccoy@clemson.edu.   Men's Retreat Clemson Wesley will be hosting a men's backpacking trip October 24th-26th.  All interested men are invited.  We will be going to Shining Rock National Wilderness and hiking to flower knob.  All weekend we will have discussions on what it means to be a Man of Christ and how to use our college years to transition into that position.  It is sure to be a weekend of glorious man time, manpacking at its finest.   Everyone will be responsible for bringing their own gear, but should you need gear we will help to find some.  There will be no cost other than food and/or gas.   While we will be focusing on christian aspects of manhood, anything is open for discussion.  Moreover, all men are welcome even if you don't come to Evensong regularly, or at all.  If you know of anyone who might be interested please pass this invitation along. You can sign up for or leave the CW block at any point throughout the semester.  I will have the tickets to distribute on the Monday before each game. If you would like season date tickets, go to the athletic ticket office as soon as possible because they are almost out if they aren't out already.  Season date tickets are $240 and include a ticket to the USC game.  I will need the "ticket" that they give you for that week's game by the Sunday before the game to turn in for your real ticket in the block. You can also buy individual date tickets for specific games, but I need to know that you want them 2 weeks before the specific game.  Individual date tickets are $35 for the Citadel and SC State games and $48 for NC State, Maryland, GA Tech, and Duke games.  Individual date tickets will not be sold for the USC game.  If you requested an individual date ticket, I need either cash or a check made out to CUAD (Clemson University Athletic Dept.) by the Sunday before the game. Graduate students can also sit in the block.  You will need to purchase grad student season tickets from the athletic ticket office, and I believe that the cost is $140.  These work about the same as season date tickets in that I will need to exchange the "ticket" that you get for a real ticket in the block. I want to go on THAT mission trip!’ as if the Bahamas is one big Garden of Eden,” Glaze noted.  “What most Americans do not realize is how Madison Avenue has trained us to feel certain emotions when we hear words like ‘Bahamas’ or ‘Caribbean.’  Sure, the Bahamas is a beautiful place with beautiful people.  But outside of the key tourist areas of Nassau and Freeport, visitors experience a way of life totally unlike what you find on a cruise.” When arriving in Clemson six years ago, Glaze had the goal of creating a long-term relationship with an agency or mission outside the U.S.  Through the UM Volunteers in Mission office in Atlanta, Glaze met Shaun Ingraham, a native Bahamian from the island of Eleuthera.  Glaze and Ingraham have formed a strong friendship over the years, working together to create opportunities for students and others to discern God’s voice and call while serving others in need. This year’s team was based at Wesley Methodist Church in the fishing village of Tarpum Bay.  Throughout the week the group helped build or repair several homes and a new building at a local school, in addition to spending time volunteering at the local primary school and clinic.  In the evenings the team spent time experiencing the local culture through visits to churches, sharing a meal and Holy Communion with the Haitian community, and enjoying the local Fish Fry in Governor’s Harbor.  For nearly a quarter of the group, this was the first time that they had ever traveled outside of the Carolinas or Georgia. “Since our first trip in 2003, Shaun and I have been intent on creating an experience much different from what many American Christians know,” Glaze added.  “We have begun to describe these trips as part mission trip, part retreat, part study abroad and part spiritual pilgrimage.  Our hope is that after a week disconnected from cell phones and the familiarity of home students will be able to experience the Spirit of God in a new way.  The Bahamas is a very Spirit-filled place.  The average native Bahamian does not have 10% of the material possessions that the typical American has, yet in many ways they have so much more.  Their life is rich in family, rich in community – indeed, rich in God and the things of God.” “Since that first trip over four years ago, dozens of students have either heard their calling or been affirmed in their calling during our time in the Bahamas,” Glaze noted.  “As a 40 year old, I know so many folks my age and older who are still trying to find their path in life.  I can’t imagine a greater gift than to find that path in your early twenties, before choosing a spouse, a job, and a home.  For this and many other reasons, CW continues to lead groups to the rural islands of the Bahamas.  It’s a place where true transformation takes place.” Rev.
